🗓 Featured Workshop: AgBioData at PAG 33

The AgBioData Consortium: Challenges and Recommendations for FAIR Genetic, Genomic, and Breeding Data

This interactive workshop brings together database developers, funders, researchers, publishers, and data users to discuss current challenges and future directions for FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) agricultural data.

🕓 What to expect

The session is designed as a bipartite workshop:

🔹 Part 1: Working Group Updates (60 min)
Hear highlights and outcomes from six AgBioData working groups:

  • NLP4Biocuration working group update (Tanya Berardini)

  • FAIR single-cell data browsers: Shiny-Piggi (Muskan Kapoor)

  • Integrating phenomics and phenotypes (John McNamara)

  • AgBioDatabase Finder tool (Leonore Reiser)

  • rsIDs in agricultural genomics (Marcela K. Tello-Ruiz)

  • Database sustainability update (John McNamara, in lieu of Dorrie Main)

Speakers will showcase new tools, standards, and community-driven recommendations that support improved data reuse and interoperability.

🔹 Part 2: Roundtable Discussions (60 min)
Engage directly in moderated discussions on forward-looking topics:

  • Sustainability of agricultural data resources

  • Contingency planning for database continuity

  • Applications of AI in data curation and analysis

  • The evolving role of data curation in scholarly publishing

We encourage participants to ask questions, share experiences, and help shape future directions for agricultural data stewardship.
